Well, in the last few days the bollards in the river have broken up and sank. The ducks don't seem to bothered. I've often passed fishermen along the bank and I'm yet to see anyone catch anything, but this morning the water was so clear I saw about 4 huge carp basking in the sun so I know now that there are big fish in there. They seem to be quite elusive, though.

Candi and I went to East Devon for the weekend, we took Friday off and made it a long one. It was so nice to get away from it all and the weather was absolutely fantastic. On Friday night we went to the village pub and I ate Devon Ruby Red sausages and mash... They were the tastiest sausages I have eaten in years. It was just a shame I had pigged out on lasagne at lunchtime so I wasn't that hungry. While we were there we travelled to quite a few of the local towns, Sidmouth, Paignton, Dawlish, Exeter, just to get a feel for the place. It didn't feel like we were in England for some reason, the unusally hot weather probably helped, but it really felt like we had been on holiday. And we both came back with sun tans which is great when you think about it. We should go away more, it gave me the opportunity to realise I've been working too much. Time to "wind down" a bit - don't want to turn into a stuffed shirt.

I was reading an article on the BBC News website about the Segway, I had no idea they were so expensive. And IMO something about them just screams Sinclair C5. For a laugh, you should check out the videos on the Amazon page - made me grin!

I managed to find an NTL Usenet server which isn't overloaded, so I was trying to catch up on various things. I came across a link to a website (old site here) about the early 90s TV sketch show, Absolutely. Not many people I know have heard of it but if you think "Fast Show" only with better characters and sketches, then you're almost there. It was also quite surreal at times, which only made it better IMO. My favourite character has to be Callum Gilhooley (vid clip here) but I liked all of them really. I would love for Channel 4 to bring out an Absolutely DVD but I hear that's not going to happen.

We had a presentation at work today from IBM / Lotus about a product of theirs called Websphere Portal. It struck me that it's just a commercial (improved) version of something like Geeklog or PHPNuke, in concept anyway.
